Evangelical Men’s Report 2007
The Christian men’s ministry movement in America is entering a new season of development similar to the
Christian youth movement of the 80s and 90s. Twenty five years ago, youth ministry in the local church was
characterized and led by volunteer workers, with little training, and few networks or professional
development. Seminaries and Christian colleges did not have youth ministry concentrations or majors. All of
that has changed.
Today the Christian men’s movement has the same characteristics of the early youth movement. No
seminary or college has a men’s ministry major or track. Churches are struggling to integrate men’s ministry,
and men are leaving the church. The typical U.S. Congregation draws an adult crowd that’s 61% female,
39% male, and this gender gap shows up in all age categories.
The Pacific Conference Men’s Summit 2007 had many struggles and distractions, but God was there in a
powerful way. We began the men’s summit with Prayer Retreat. Our speaker, Supt. Dale Erbele, had to
cancel the day before retreat due to his wife’s illness, but we had other men fill in on short notice, doing a
great job.
Men’s Summit 2008 will be March 6-8 with speaker Paul Coughlin, author of No More Christian Nice Guy:
When Being Nice Instead of Good Hurts Men, Women, and Children, Married but not Engaged, and No
More Jellyfish, Chickens, or Wimps. Paul has been featured with Focus on the Family both on radio and in
the magazine. James Dobson has said about Paul Coughlin “You did an outstanding job expounding on the
unique challenges today’s Christian men face as they strive to be godly husbands.” Dr. Laura Schlesinger
writes, “No More Christian Nice guy is a fabulous book. It’s so clever, it will jumpstart you guys--Christian or
not.”
The Evangelical Men of the Pacific Conference is committed to act as a catalyst to “ignite” local men’s
ministry, to motivate the men of the Conference towards a deeper relationship with the Lord and ministry in
their local church.
